Traditional Newfoundland Corned Beef Cakes - Bonita's Kitchen
Welcome to Bonita's Kitchen! Today we will be making Corned Beef Cakes, made with can corned beef, potatoes and so much more. Q: What is Savoury? A: Savoury is a herb/spice you can buy it fresh or dried, in the same a sage or thyme. See link to PICKLED ONIONS https://youtu.be/jxWaB7gF5iQ Prep-Time 10 Min Cook Time 30 Min Serves 6 Ingredients: 1 340g can Corned Beef 4 Medium potatoes 1 Medium onions 1/2 Cup flour 1 lg. Egg Pinch pepper 1 tsp savoury 1/4 Cup milk Method: 1 - Boil potatoes for ten minutes until cooked, then drain water off and let cool to room temperature. 2 - In a frying pan sauté onions until golden brown. 3 - Open can of corned beef and chop in small pieces, then place in a bowl. 4 - Then add the other ingredients, potatoes, savoury, (salt)and pepper mash together with your corned beef until all combined. 5 - Then add sautéed onions mix together. 6 - In a small bowl add your egg and milk then mix together. 7 - In a small plate add your flour with a pinch of pepper. 8 - Scoop up some corned beef mixture and shape into a round flat cake, then roll in the egg wash and then in the flour set aside until all made. 9 - In a frying pan add butter and olive oil when hot start frying your cakes, a couple of minutes on each side until golden brown. 10 - When fried plate with a side of onion pickles and 1 egg, or a side of choice.
